Core Objectives

1.4 Core Objectives

These courses have been established with the following main objectives:

1. To assist students to find and enhance their faith relationship with God their creator, through Jesus Christ.

2. To develop in students a sound and balanced knowledge of the Bible and its doctrines.

3. To show students the practical application of those Biblical Doctrines in vibrant personal lifestyle and effective ministry unique to each individual student.

4. To assist students to develop the knowledge, awareness and skills to enable them to become competent and effective counsellors and ministers who work from a Christian/Biblical worldview. This will be achieved through an integrated programme with academic study, theoretical knowledge, professional skills and supervised practice.

5. To upskill house/cell group leaders, church ministry team members, Elders and Pastors with a clear call into the ministry of counselling. While JTI courses are based on a Christian/Biblical framework, students and graduates are expected to appreciate the work of other counsellors who work within a secular or mixed secular and Biblical worldview. Clients are entitled to be referred to other counsellors for further assistance where required without any conflict based on prejudice of any kind.

1.5 The purpose of training for Christians is to:

* Entrust the Gospel of Jesus Christ to faithful believers in order that they may know (2 Timothy 3:15); guard (2 Timothy 1:14); and teach the true Biblical faith (1 Timothy 4:6, 11; 2 Timothy 2:2) and righteous standards (Romans 6:17; 1 Timothy 6:3).

* To defend against false theologies and teachers (Jude 3).

* To strengthen and bring to maturity to reflect Christ's image (Ephesians 4:11-16).

* To bring students into a deeper understanding and experience of God's Kingdom on earth and its conflicts with Satan's power (Ephesians 6:10-18).

* To understand the true inspiration of Scripture (2 Timothy 1:13-14; Ezra 7:10).

* True Biblical training emphasises true righteousness (knowing, being, doing) and Scripture reveals redemptive truths, not just academic ones. Since they involve life and death eternal issues, a personal response and decision is required (James 2:17; Philippians 1:19).
