About Jubilee Training Institute
Why "Jubilee"?10.01God's commission for Jubilee is based on Ezekiel 33:1-9, and Luke 4:18-21. According to the Bible, Jubilee years were times of restitution. Debts were cancelled, slaves set free, families reunited and lost or forfeited inheritances restored. Every year was prophetic of the ministry of Jesus Christ. The Jubilee was proclaimed on the basis of the work of the High Priest on the Day of Atonement - so Jesus Christ's liberating ministry is founded on His atoning work. Jesus began His public ministry by reading the passage from the prophet Isaiah (Luke 4:18-21). All the liberties of the Jubilee year are now available to us through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ at Calvary, and we all have the responsibility to preach this Gospel of Redemption and to proclaim the Atonement. When Christ returns, God's people will be totally free from all sin, sickness and disease, death and curse. The Biblical Jubilee will then be fully realised
Training History
10.2 Training History Jubilee Ministries began in 1992, publishing some booklets to equip Christians about spiritual deceptions such as religious cults, the New Age and the Occult, etc. Invitations to run seminars around New Zealand came, with much growth. In 1995, formal registration was accomplished as a registered Incorporated Charitable Trust under the Educational and Religious provisions of the New Zealand Charities Act. As a consequence, invitations came to hold similar seminars in Australia. People who were ministering successfully with difficult counselling issues came across our path. Some of these people were brought to New Zealand to train people in effective Prayer Ministry, resulting in over 400 pastors, counsellors, ministry team leaders and others going through the weekend workshop course within the first few months. This was further refined by our board in New Zealand and grew into the Isaiah 61 Prayer Ministry course which Jubilee Resources have subsequently run on four continents. The clamour for more training with a similar Biblical foundation had been rising louder, and when Jubilee President, Selwyn Stevens, was seeking materials suitable for training African pastors, the basic framework for the courses in Christian Counselling were located.Jubilee Training Institute was formally established with it's own board in 2002. The primary course focuses on Christian Counselling and Pastoral Care. This is now also presented as a series of five Certificates and the option of a Post Graduate Diploma course. We also offer a Certificate course in People Caring Skills which has a focus on upskilling full and part-time pastors and home/cell group leaders at the level of ministry requirements they would normally handle. In addition, Jubilee Training Institute also offer a Certificate in New Testament Studies course, and a Diploma in Biblical Studies. Other courses are presently under consideration.
Jubilee Training Institute Vision:
1.1 The primary focus of Jubilee Training Institute's School of Christian Counselling is the ongoing improvement of the skills of those involved in "Ministry" and/or counselling in many church settings, either as paid staff, or as caring volunteers. We also want to encourage greater accountability, expansion of ability, and interaction with local peer groups and mentors/supervisors as appropriate, through quality accredited training courses. We also aim to improve counselling/ministry outputs for many of the churchgoers in New Zealand and overseas who would normally go to their pastor/priest/minister; or increasingly, to their elders or cell/home group leaders, for assistance with personal, relationship and related issues. We are not disinterested in the wider community and their needs as many of these people do contact a local church for help in solving relationship and other personal issues.
We aim to provide quality academic and Bible-based Christian education. Equipping, accountability, prevention of serious mistakes (e.g. the 2002 Auckland (N.Z.) Korean "Exorcism case" resulting in the client's death) plus safeguards, are essential: they must be credible, long-term in scope, and broad enough to cover most Christian denominations. (Almost all Christian denominations have been represented at ministry training courses Jubilee Resources have run in New Zealand in the previous few years.)
1.2 The Christian Counselling and Pastoral Care courses are offered to meet a real need in the Christian community for structured, reputable, professional counselling training based on a Christian/Biblical foundation. A distinctive aspect of the course programme will ensure personal development as well as acquiring skills and knowledge.
On completion of their course, graduates will be expected to work cooperatively with others in related fields. This will ensure peer accountability, as well as monitoring their work for everyone's safety and benefit. Good counsellors are always learning, and yet always accountable.
1.3 Our School of Biblical Studies seeks to provide a Bible-based understanding and equipping for relevant personal, community and international ministry. It is our desire for you to experience a well-rounded view of the ministry God is calling you to. We seek to prepare you to attain your destiny and what God has purposed for your life. Through practical experience and the process of three short years, Jesus taught twelve untrained men to reach a lost world. God desires that we do the same. The goal of Jubilee Training Institute is to equip in excellence and integrity in education and ministry.
